About Shepherdsway

How it all started...

My Alaskan Malamute Foundation Dogs

It all started with Highnoons Ottawa (Tasha) brought from Janet Edmonds the well known Highnoons kennels. I mated Tasha to Am Ch Fire N’Ice in Conclusion and that mating produced Shepherdsway Silver Dollar at Hyteton and Shepherdsway Black Oasis (Siska) who was then mated to Storm Klouds Chosen to Win at Hawkam who was imported by Walt Howarth and that produced (Scout) Can Ch Shepherdsway Phantom Scout now 14 yrs old. Scout has had some good litters producing strong bone and good heads which all the dogs behind him had and which his son Shepherdsway Gatekeeper is also passing on.

I then brought from Sweden the first reds two girls Eastern Hill Coldfoot Channel at Shepherdsway (Tannakee) and her sister Coldfoot Coco (Layash). Tannakee was mated to Malsabout Golden Dream at Highnoons this breeding brought in the Keikewabic lines from Canada and produced Can Ch Shepherdsway Pocahontas, Shepherdsway Kiowa at Anuvak and their brother Shepherdsway Wovaka of Snowolf. All these dogs are behind many in the ring today. Layash was mated to a dog I imported, a red Can Ch Outriggers Red Wolf at Shepherdsway. This mating produced the first all red litter the most well known are Can Ch Shepherdsway Red Lobo, Shepherdsway Touch of Gold with Arctictrek and Shepherdsway Golden Shemya at Zeelukzak. All these dogs will be behind most of the reds in the U K.

I also bought a bitch that had been imported here from Canada from  a Peter Bromley. Her name was Keikewabic Ringside Rumour at Shepherdsway (Chelsea) a small grey & white bitch, I had two litters from her but the best breeding came when I mated her to Shepherdsway Red Lobo. This breeding produced Shepherdsway Black Warrior of Polarrun (Timber) owned by Jez Hutchcroft and Shepherdsway Regal Queen of Casiat (Isis) owned by Simon & Carol Atherton. These dogs did well in both working and showing and are still going strong in the ring and on the trails despite being veterans now. Two males also went to Sweden to bring in new bloodlines for their new owners. Sadly we lost Chelsea at 8yrs due to bone cancer.

I also imported another red male Keikewabic Rusty Tundra Baron at Shepherdsway to help boost the red genes on a different line many of his offspring are in the show ring today.

In the 90s I owned the only white Malamute male in the UK Dientes Diablo del Viejo Roble (Donner) he was shown and always qualified for Crufts where he always had his admirers; it was always amusing to see some judges scan the breed standard due to his colour. He sired one litter but never produced any whites although he is in the background of some of my breeding, to date we still have never produced another white I keep hoping.

My Canadian Eskimo Dogs

I also became very interested in the Eskimo Dog and started to speak to breeders in Canada, many of them were not breeding any more due to lack of interest and one breeder would not sell to the UK because of our quarantine laws. I kept looking and eventually found a breeder call Jo Kelly and she agreed to sell me a dog and bitch so in 1999 I re-introduced the breed back to the UK. High Lonesomes Polar Bear at Shepherdsway (Panda) and High Lonesomes Finn at Shepherdsway (Finn) arrived. The mating of both these dogs produced offspring that have done well in the show ring and on the working trails. I then imported Anuvik Blue Steel at Shepherdsway and in 2007 and 2008 I imported High Lonesomes Qimmiq Fox at Shepherdsway (Fox), High Lonesomes Qimmiq Ashoona at Shepherdsway (Spoons) High Lonesomes Muktuk at Shepherdsway (Muktuk) and High Lonesomes Polaris III at Shepherdsway (Polar). I would like to thank Jo for letting me have these wonderful dogs and her advice in helping to get the breed re established here.
